Former England manager Fabio Capello has stunned the football world by saying that he would be interested in taking over the Chelsea managerial post in the summer.
Chelsea have never approached Fabio Capello ever since the former Real Madrid manager left his England managerial position a few months ago. However, the Italian has come out with the statement saying that he would be interested to manage the club even if it is for only one year because he wants a new challenge. It has been quite a while since the Italian last managed a club team, but he has been hugely successful when it comes to club football.
He is currently out of work after his resignation over the John Terry issue a few months ago. Chelsea will be having the small matter of the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Saturday before they will take a decision on their manager. It is thought that the result of the final will prove to be a major factor in the appointment of the next Chelsea manager. Should Chelsea win the Champions League this season, then they will automatically qualify for the next year’s competition as the holders. It would also mean that Roberto di Matteo will become the favourite to get the job on a full-time basis.
However, it remains to be seen if Fabio Capello will be able to accept the Chelsea job if they are without the prospect of Champions League football next season. “At the end of my career it would be interesting to find a team with big motivation to arrive at the top. I want to manage a team that is able to play in the Champions League and fight for lots of trophies. If I don’t find the kind of club I want I’ll return to being a pundit,” said Capello.
